Fawley Church bells and service
When I was a child I was a bellringer at All Saints Fawley, Hampshire. In the late 1980s, one of the other ringers lent me a set of six 78rpm discs, and I played them on my record player at home and recorded them onto cassette tape. Now I have digitised that cassette tape for your listening pleasure.
I don’t remember much about the records. They were double sided, I think they were 10”, and I remember them being heavy and metallic. I don't know how old they were - I don't think there was a date written on them at all.
There were two discs of just the bells, and then there was a set of four discs which were all recorded sequentially, starting with the bells and including the service with hymns and liturgy.
The captions are as copied by me in the late ’80s from the record labels.
You can compare these recordings with a recent Youtube video of the bells. There is more information on the church website.
The photo on the left comes from a late 1980s souveneir booklet.
