Gilded tuning key

I made this key yesterday, for a colleague who has been waiting too long for it! They are particularly interested in bee-lore, so I made the handle hexagonal in shape. I wanted to use gilding for the highlights, but it took me a long time to work out a way to get the design settled in my mind. I carved the haxagonal flats and then made a slender incised line along each edge, and gilded inside the incision. It ended  up looking like something from Fortnum and Mason’s confectionary counter!

Check out my Tuning key page at the Emporium for more info on what is possible!
